Final Blog Post (Jiaxin)

Finally, Orphy’s Quest is officially published. Creating this game with a group of responsible teammates really made this experience worthwhile. As the main scripter, I successfully performed my role in programming the art assets, animations, and sound effects into an interactive and engaging level. I would not be able to do all this without my teammates. During this team project, I scripted all the game mechanics, UI control, and quest/dialogue system. By understanding and organizing my own code well, it was simple in making small adjustments based on playtest feedback. I believe I excelled the most at communicating with my teammates, so I can effectively incorporate the art and sound assets they found or made into our game. Before replacing the white box with the assets, I coded the basic interacting script that can lead the other members on what assets they should look for. This had a positive impact in our project creation by decreasing the amount of time needed to experiment and iterate.

For my next project, I would work on brainstorming more ideas of a single game rather than sticking with the same idea since the beginning. It would be nice if I learned how to weapon swap and have an armor system that can be bought in the store for the player. The battle with the goblins could also be improved by creating a variable in the script that has a random range between 5-10 rather than just taking 10 damage all the time. During the next group project, I will comment more on my code and create meaningful names for my variables, so my group members will be able to understand and alter the code accordingly. Another improvement for future assignments is to create a reminder on my phone to work on certain parts of the project in certain days, so that I would not pile everything right before the deadline. But all in all, it was an amazing experience. Thank you Xiaowen and Ashley for all your work!
